In 2021, the agricultural sector accounted for approximately <\/span>5.1% <\/span><\/b>of Kazakhstan\u2019s economic production.\u202f Approximately <\/span>45%<\/span><\/b> of the country\u2019s population lives in rural areas. According to the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy, out of the total number of <\/span>8.5 <\/span><\/b>million<\/span> employed, <\/span>2 <\/span><\/b>million<\/span> people<\/span> work in the agricultural sector.\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n Approximately <\/span>75% <\/span><\/b>of the country\u2019s territory is suitable for agriculture, but only about <\/span>30%<\/span><\/b> of the land is currently under agricultural production.\u202fKazakhstan also has sufficient water resources.<\/span><\/p>\n Kazakhstan is one of the <\/span>top 10 grain exporters <\/span><\/b>in the world, exporting to over <\/span>70<\/span><\/b> countries.\u202fWheat is the largest crop by acreage, accounting for <\/span>80%<\/span><\/b> of grain production. The country also produces barley, cotton, sunflower seeds, and rice. \u202fKazakhstan is the region\u2019s largest flour exporter by volume, shipping mostly to other Central Asian countries and Afghanistan.\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n The launch of <\/span>the grain terminal at the port of Kuryk<\/span><\/b> with a capacity of 1 million tons per year with a one-time storage of 25 thousand tons of grain crops is planned in 2023. The terminal will provide a route for grain to Middle Eastern and African countries.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Nearly <\/span>90%<\/span><\/b> of agricultural machinery currently in use in Kazakhstan is at the end of its lifecycle and needs to be replaced.\u00a0 The rate of <\/span>machinery renewal <\/span><\/b>over the past 5 years ranged from 3\u20134.9%, but this rate should reach 6\u20138% annually.<\/span><\/p>\n Local production of agricultural machinery and equipment is rather small.\u202fIn 2020, the Kazakhstani agricultural machinery and equipment sector was estimated to be valued at <\/span>$500<\/span><\/b> million, of which <\/span>$300<\/span><\/b> million was imported.<\/span><\/p>\n Finnish companies can provide equipment, technologies, and solutions for sustainable agriculture development in Kazakhstan.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ANIMAL HUSBANDRY <\/span><\/b>remains an important economic activity with around <\/span>75%<\/span><\/b> of all agricultural land used for grazing.\u202f While sheep breeding dominates the sector, cattle, pig, horse, and camel production are also important.<\/span><\/p>\n Additional measures will be taken in Kazakhstan to create conditions for the development of animal husbandry. 3 modern meat processing plants and 8 large poultry factories will be put into operation.\u00a0 There are also plans to build 25 industrial and 30 family dairy farms. <\/span><\/p>\n According to the <\/span>Ministry of Agriculture\u2019s 2021-2030 Policy Document<\/span><\/b>, the government plans to train beef cattle producers to increase beef exports, while the <\/span>National Agricultural Sector Development Project Plan 2021-2025<\/span><\/b> called for increasing average cattle weight, average milk yield per cow, and domestic production of several \u201csocially significant food products,\u201d including poultry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n FISH FARMING <\/span><\/b>is developing dynamically in Kazakhstan. Over the past 7 years, the volume of fish raised has increased <\/span>9<\/span><\/b> times, from <\/span>800<\/span><\/b> tons to more than <\/span>7,000 <\/span><\/b>tons. Today, <\/span>254<\/span><\/b> fish farms are engaged in the cultivation of commercial fish, of which <\/span>177<\/span><\/b> lake-commercial fish farms, <\/span>54<\/span><\/b> pond farms, <\/span>7<\/span><\/b> cage fish farms, <\/span>16<\/span><\/b> UZS and basin farms.<\/span><\/p>\n The Kazakh government is aiming to boost domestic fish production to <\/span>270,000<\/span><\/b> tons by 2030. The authorities expect <\/span>541 <\/span><\/b>billion<\/span> tenges of investments (<\/span>$1.3 <\/span><\/b>billion) to be pumped into the domestic aquaculture sector. Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated\u00a0 5.4.2021 <\/span>On the development of fisheries<\/span><\/b> approved the Program for development of fisheries for 2021-2030. The government approved subsidies to reimburse 50 % of costs associated with brood stock purchases, 30% of the costs for the purchase of fish feed, 50% of the cost of developing a fish-breeding and biological justification, 50% of the cost of purchasing fish planting material, 50% of the cost of purchasing medicines.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n THE PRODUCTION OF VEGETABLE OIL <\/span><\/b>is among the most promising directions of development<\/span>.<\/span><\/b> The key factors of attraction are access to raw materials in Kazakhstan (gross yield of oilseeds in 2019 amounted to <\/span>2.6<\/span><\/b> million tons) and the area sown to oilseeds (in 2019 reached about <\/span>3<\/span><\/b> million hectares).
