Finland and Kazakhstan agreed on a strategic partnership in the energy sector

The partnership lays foundation for Finnish clean energy exports.

Finland and Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership in the energy sector. The particular areas of cooperation are the promotion of energy and clean technologies, security of energy supply and decarbonisation of electricity and heat production.

On behalf of Kazakhstan, the memorandum of understanding was signed by Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov and, on behalf of Finland, by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment Timo Jaatinen, deputising for Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala. The signing took place in connection with the state visit by President of the Republic Alexander Stubb on 28 October 2025.

This memorandum of understanding continues the work outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed between the countries in 2018. The aim is to lay the foundation for Finnish clean energy exports.
