The new ambassador of Ukraine to Finland is ready to support Finnish companies exploring the Ukrainian market

Ukraine is already preparing for its post-war future.

Mykhailo Vydoinyk, Ukraine’s new ambassador to Finland, is well-acquainted with the concerns and questions of the business community. Vydoinyk assumed his post in Finland this summer, following his previous diplomatic assignment in Denmark – a country known for its active support and partnership with Ukraine.

According to Vydoinyk, Ukraine warmly welcomes proposals and solutions from Finnish companies for the country’s reconstruction and development. He acknowledges that inviting businesses to a country engaged in a defensive war is not easy – but the need is urgent and immediate. Given the acute situation, he encourages companies to move forward with business negotiations sooner rather than later.

Ukraine’s list of needs is long, but the goal of reconstruction is to build a modern, European Ukraine. The rebuilding effort will require vast amounts of labor and materials – far more than are currently available within the country. That’s why Ukraine favors rapid deployment and construction solutions.

– Any prefabricated solutions for construction will be key issue, so that you can assemble it without having many workers there, Vydoinyk says.

One of Ukraine’s most promising sectors is agriculture, which accounts for nearly one-third of the country’s GDP. According to Vydoinyk, agricultural production continues to grow year by year, despite the fact that large areas of farmland have been lost or contaminated with landmines.

– What we are lacking is processing. We are selling the crops as a raw material with big agricultural consortiums. Now every farm in Ukraine has started to think how can I process my crop, so I could have better prices selling it as final products, Vydoinyk explains.

Due to the ongoing war, Ukraine’s defence industry is currently attracting gold rush–like interest. Defence-related solutions will be needed not only during the war but also after it ends – to strengthen and maintain national security. Many of these solutions can also be scaled for civilian use.

Other key sectors are also undergoing rapid transformation. Ukraine’s mining industry produces critical metals, logistics infrastructure is being developed to support future international trade, and the IT sector is actively seeking new digital solutions. The heavily damaged energy sector is being rebuilt almost entirely – with a focus on greener and more resilient systems.

Ukraine is actively seeking partners and solutions for its reconstruction. Ambassador Mykhailo Vydoinyk is committed to answering questions from Finnish companies, helping both sides find common ground and opportunities for cooperation.

Ambassador Vydoinyk met with EastCham member companies at a member event on 18 September 2025 in Helsinki.
