President Tokayev praises Finnish companies for solutions delivered to Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan seeks new cooperation with Finland in agriculture, forestry, and the IT Sector.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev praised Finnish companies for solutions delivered to Kazakhstan, according to the president’s official website. Tokayev spoke at a business forum in Astana on October 28, held in connection with the visit of Finland’s President Alexander Stubb.

According to Tokayev, Finland is globally recognized for its innovations and advanced technology, citing Kone, Nokia, and Fortum as examples. The list of well-known companies in Kazakhstan is extensive.

– Nearly 50 Finnish-affiliated companies operate in Kazakhstan, including globally recognized brands such as Tikkurila, Wärtsilä, Nurminen, Metso, Valtra, Peikko, and many others, Tokayev said.

Tokayev thanked Wärtsilä for technology supplied for energy production, Metso for solutions in the mining industry, and Nurminen Logistics for its investment in developing rail logistics. Kazakhstan also cooperates with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) in the field of nuclear energy.

New areas of cooperation

Kazakhstan sees numerous potential areas for new collaboration. Actively developing its Caspian Sea ports of Aktau and Kuryk, the country would gladly deepen its partnership with the ports of Helsinki and Hamina-Kotka. Key sectors for development in Kazakhstan include agriculture, forestry, and the IT industry, where both technology and training are needed.

– Kazakhstan is interested in training a new generation of experts in agriculture, as well as conducting joint research to develop innovative and sustainable farming. In forestry, we aim to promote environmentally friendly practices, vocational training, and the adoption of modern wood-processing technologies, Tokayev said.

The Kazakh president’s website highlights President Stubb’s desire for stable business conditions in an increasingly volatile world.

– Stability is achieved primarily through agreements like those we are signing today between Finland and Kazakhstan at the political level. Today, Memorandums of Understanding have also been signed here, Stubb said.

The presidents also outline the future direction of Finland–Kazakhstan relations in a joint statement published after their meeting.
