EPSE and Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu sign a MoU to implement the Green Zone program

The Green Zone program is part of Central Asia’s green transition.

EPSE and its US affiliate EPSE Technology Inc. have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kazakh state-owned Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu LLP company.

The agreement covers the construction of Kazakhstan’s first Green Zone unit and includes an option for the implementation of five additional units, with a total value of approximately 200 million euros.

EPSE Green Zone is a pioneering concept that transforms industrial side streams such as mine tailings, slags, and wastewater into valuable raw materials.

New technologies for the green transition

The agreement was signed during the visit of the President of Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb to Kazakhstan on Tuesday 28th October. Similar agreement was signed on also in Uzbekistan.

By EPSE, both Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, have a strong desire to modernize towards sustainability, and this is reflected in the mining industry in the adaptation of innovations and new technology.

– The value of a single unit is approximately 35 million euros. The goal is to build five additional units. We are able to construct two units simultaneously, so the work will take about five years, says CEO of EPSE Jouni Jääskeläinen in an interview with Kauppalehti regarding the agreements.
