Getting rid of the landfills – Finnish experience in building a waste management system

This site collects information on Finnish municipal, industrial and medical waste management practices, solutions and best technologies and services exploited and offered to global market. Our goal is to share experiences on do’s and dont’s in formulating a sustainable waste management system and base for circular economy.

Only 10 years ago Finland was dependent on its landfills. Now only 1 % of waste ends up there. This site shows how this transformation was done.

The content of the webpages was updated in 2022. The content of ”Biowaste and nutrient recycling” part was updated in December 2023.
