Overview of municipal solid waste management in Finland
Finland has developed an efficient municipal solid waste management system that is secure and reliable due to inclusive and transparent legislation, close cooperation between municipalities and private companies and effective supervision mechanisms. Finnish waste legislation is largely based on EU legislation, but in some cases it is even stricter. The leading role of municipalities has formed the basis for municipal solid waste management.
