Almalyk launches a new copper processing plant with key technology supplied by Metso
The next copper plant is already being planned.
The Uzbek mining company Almalyk has launched its new Copper Processing Plant No. 3 in a ceremonial event. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the opening and pressed the symbolic start button.
The Finnish company Metso supplied key process technology and expertise to this project, including advanced grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration and process optimization solutions as well as advanced process control systems. The project also involved Wood, Worley, FLSmidth, Weir Minerals, and Siemens.
– The project reflects strong collaboration and our shared commitment to efficient and sustainable mining operations in the region, says Metso’s CEO Renaud Lapointe in a LinkedIn post from Metso.
The copper plant is a USD 2.7 billion project. It is capable of processing 60 million tons of ore and producing 0.9 million tons of copper concentrate annually. In total, Almalyk’s copper concentrate production capacity will double to 1.8 million tons per year. The new plant ranks among the largest in Central Asia.
Almalyk is continuing its major investments. Construction of a new USD 2.5 billion copper smelter has begun, and the company is already preparing the next Copper Processing Plant No. 4.
