EastCham is organizing a Team Finland visit to Aktau, West Kazakhstan together with Finnish Embassy in Astana.The delegation will be headed by ambassador Janne Heiskanen.

Aktau is the capital of the Mangystau Region, a port city on the Caspian Sea and the economic and logistic hub of southwestern Kazakhstan. It is located in a strategically crucial spot on the shore of the Caspian sea which connects Central Asia to South Caucasus and eventually Europe and China.

  • Capital of the Mangystau region.
  • Population: 270,000
  • Significant investments in port operations and logistics development
  • Located along the Middle Corridor and other important logistics routes for Kazakhstan – Gateway to Kazakhstan
  • The EU has committed to investing ten million euros in the Middle Corridor under the Global Gateway strategy
  • Construction of a container hub has begun at the port of Aktau to develop maritime transport, which will increase its capacity to 240,000 TEU per year.
  • Kazakhstan’s position in the international logistics arena to increase, increased container transportation along the Trans-Caspian route
  • Construction sector potential increasing because of port and logistics infrastructure projects and tourism industry development

  • Key port project as part of the Middle Corridor
  • Predicted to become an important transit port by 2028.

Planned meetings and visits:

March 31 – Morning (First Half of the Day)

  • Meeting with the Akimat
  • Round table with the Akimat, Finnish companies and Kazakh companies*
  • Networking

March 31 – Afternoon

  • Visit to the Port of Aktau
  • Visit to the container hub of Azurite Logistics

April 1 – Morning

  • Visit to the Port of Kuryk (75 km from Aktau)

April 1 – Afternoon

  • Visit to the production site of a Kazakh company, e.g. KazaZot (company to be confirmed)

Transfers, lunches and interpretations included in the program.

*Kazakh companies to be invited to meet Finnish companies’ needs.
